UCLA is a public institution of the State of California. It offers undergraduate, graduate academic and professional degrees in the College of Letters and Science and eleven professional schools. Research awards topped $1 billion in 2011-12, and the many awards and honors given to faculty indicate the high quality of their research. The health system encompasses the Ronald Reagan Hospital, opened in 2009, and a range of other hospitals and clinics across the Los Angeles region.
